BBQ on the RiverExcelsior Springs, MO
Burnt Finger BBQ competed in the BBQ on the River contest in Excelsior Springs, MO. Friday evening’s pot-luck was cut a little short because of a rain storm that rolled through the area. The forecast was calling for 50 mph winds on the front edge of the storm, so we quickly scrambled to make sure everything was strapped down in our cook site. The wind ended up not being as intense as predicted, but we did have to ride out a decent thunderstorm in the trailer.
Despite the less than desirable weather conditions overnight, we managed to put together a great cook. Megan’s banana pudding brought home a perfect score in the dessert category. Our pork was spot on this weekend and ended up in a tie for 2nd place, missing a perfect score by one tenderness point. We ultimately lost the tie-breaker and brought home 3rd place honors. Chicken also earned a walk to the awards stage for a 6th place finish, with 4 out of 5 judges giving us a perfect score. All in all, a great weekend that added up to 7th place overall out of 56 teams.
